    cueing up through monitors

hi all, im gaz recently joined,

for those that mix at home how do you use your headphones? do you mix using monitors with one headphone over one ear and listening to the monitor with the other ear or just use both ear cups?
ive got the pioneer djm 600 mixer that has monitor and stereo headphone mixing.
basically im using my stereo speakers as monitors as i only mix at home so havnt got both monitors and speakers as thats a bit pointless and wasting money just for home use.
but i find it really hard to properly cue up, now ive been mixing for over ten years but have only just started trying to cue up this way, i tend to get it cued up there or thereabouts but have to always listen in both ears to get it perfect.
how do you guys mix at home through headphones? is it because they arnt proper monitors or just that i need to get used to mixing this way alot more.
as i said using the stereo way which im used to is piss easy but someone has offered me the chance to do a bit of djing and i want to get used to mixing using monitors,
    any tips?
    cheers guy, Gaz

I mix through my headphones and nothing else, i had to adapt to not having speakers when i had children , the beauty is that i cant hear the mix "coming in" but have learnt to know what it will sound like, however when listening back its still a surprise to exactly how it will sound. i find that this method allows more control over beatmatching
